An icon of Italian design, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni’s Mezzadro Stool showcases the brother’s ingenuity and sense of bold experimentation with found objects. Meaning “sharecropper” in Italian, the refined stool unites a standard metal tractor seat and bicycle wing nut with a steel spring stem and across the base of natural beech wood.

With a minimal number of parts and materials, the designer’s managed to create an enduring icon that is more than the sum of its parts.
