Dancing Squares Lamps
By folding flat, geometrically-patterned steel into spherical forms, Nendo creates lighting elements that have a sense of motion. The Dancing Squares lamps appear to roll about but are stable, thanks to their planes, and cast light in different directions with their unique pattern of solids and voids. Deeply conceptual, the resulting forms are a poetic unity of playful sculpture and functional design. Originally conceived as part of the Japanese designer’s 2011 exhibition “Dancing Squares” the lamps have been brought into production due to their successful design. Available in three sizes – 34, 54 or 74 cm tall – they feature a 75″ cord that may be hardwired to be used as a suspension lamp or fitted with the included plug to be used as a floor or table lamp.
